Just wanted to say that we had a great trip!  We camped north of Woodland park, explored the Cripple Creek, and Canon City areas, and of course, ran a bunch of trials in Pikes National Forest.  I wish that we could have run some trails together with other Suzuki enthusiasts, but we still had a lot of fun.

I think we were the only non-ATV/motorcycle out there on the trails!  I definitely received a lot of strange looks, as well as a very puzzled look from a new 4-door Jeep owner after I emerged from a steep, and heavily rutted trail, and onto the main roadway.   >:D

Seems like there really has been a shift in what people are using to get out. The side by sides, quads, and MC are really growing in popularity. I wonder if there are some industry numbers somewhere? Anyway, I was in Idaho a few weeks ago running trails and most of them have shrunk down / grown in to quad size.

I think a large part of the shift is that newer Jeeps and other SUVs are too large (too long and wide) for the old Jeep trails, which were organized around a short and narrow Jeep CJ5 (Samurai) sized vehicle.  I can't imagine taking a new Jeep on some of the trails that we covered in Pikes Forest.  Many trails contained washed out, rutted sections, that would be nearly impossible for a larger vehicle to negotiate.

As far as the  ATV industry, it is still growing.  http://www.ibisworld.com/industry/atv-manufacturing.html

Around Oklahoma I see a lot of RZRs and RZR-like SXSs on the trails now.  They have grown so much in popularity, I would say that they outnumber the street legal rigs.  Of course, many SXSs have lift kits etc, and some are almost the same size of a 4-door Jeep, albeit much lighter.  Too expensive for me, and I like to drive my legally drive my rig on the road.  I will stick with my old Samurais.  8)
