Some race damage
« on: November 11, 2010, 06:48:14 PM »
Here is what happened to the Cherry Bomb on the last race.
The axle broke

The smaller section was jammed in the spool. I had to disassemble the 3rd member and pound it out. No other damage other than the lock on the adjuster.

Oh, and the seal of course

The rear suspension took a beating. I need better shocks and more up travel. I was hitting the bump stops so hard they split and left the vehicle on the 1st lap. So then the shocks were taking some of that force and it destroyed the bushings.

Here is a overall shot

The issue with the bumpstops is exactly what happened to us, only without the limiting strap on there you tend to loose the rear springs.  :D

Ya the funny thing was, once I lost them I did not seem to bottom out as much. I mean I could hear it when it did(metal on metal) but that extra 1.5" seemed to make a big difference.

Thinking about moving them a bit higher?  We switched over to progressive coils, we'll see how well they work.
