« on: March 15, 2010, 07:07:51 PM »
i just baught my first zuk i love it!!! its all stock other then the new 27x9.50x15 ssr tsl swampers . its a 5 speed.. when i shift from 3 to 5 gear it makes a loud noise from the transfer well  atleast i think its comming from there when i push in the clutch you dont hear it. when you give the gas peddle a light load it gets louder... i can feel it in the 4x4 shifter .... i changes the fluid in it and it looked like black pudding badi put new fluid in it. im think that it might of done this befor i got it and the previous owner put something in it to make it quite to sell it... im hoping that its something simple like the bearing... but want to know what your guys think?

You said when you push in the clutch it stops... that makes me believe it is in the trans... maybe a throw out bearing? it could be any one of the bearings inside the trans or transfer case... I am thinking tranny.... just my .02... mine did this to me, and when I pulled the trans apart, I had all but 1 bad bearings, so I just rebuilt the whole thing... check the throw out bearing first...

Bad trans bearing, you can feel it thru the t-case because they are
connected together, fix it before it wears the gear teeth, the trans
will never be quiet it that happens

Vote 3 for the Transmission.  The fact that you don't hear it in 4th is a give-away.  3rd and 5th are usually the first ones to start going anyway.

I here it from 3 4 and5. What about the black fluid in the transfer case. It had tiny pieces of metal shaving in it. I put a pipe to the transfer case while I had the rear end on Jack stand and could hear noises from it. I can't feel anything with the transfer shifter but when I'm doing 45 I can move the transfer case shifter and make the noise I'm hearing quieter.

if you only hear it in certain gears,  change your transmission fluid too.   I wouldnt doubt you've got two problems, and you're just hearing noises from both.
