Engine swap for a 92 sidekick
« on: October 14, 2011, 07:50:51 AM »
My 1.6 16v has finally bitten the dust.  I want to do an upgrade for better power.  Was thinking of either a newer Suzuki V6 or possibly a diesel.  Anyone have any experience, recommendations, advice, etc. with either one?

I have done many upgrades and currently am running 5.83's with ARB's and 33's on the original stock engine without issues on the trails but could really use more power on the highways in the mountains and for towing my trailer.

I have been really impressed by the 2.0L from the Aerio that we put in Project Trouble (able to do 85+ on a dirt road in 4wd with power to spare) and it was a lot easier to fit then the 2.7L V6 was in BRD HNTR's rig (able to cruise at 120, supposedly, and managed to get 30mpg when idling around Yellowstone).  Either would make a great swap.

Thanks for info.  Is the 2.0 a direct bolt in or will it take some changes to motor mounts or tranny?  Will the current ECM still work or does it need to be changed out?  Is there place to look online for a description of the process?

You need a modified flywheel from Trail Tough, an oil pan and pickup from a 2.0L from a Tracker, new engine mounts, new exhaust and re-wire the ECU.  Find a manual car if you can, otherwise your check engine light will be on due to the lack of a transmission for it to talk to.

Linkage to Project Trouble build

You might check with Aftermarket 4x4, they were going to make engine mounts to allow a drop in 2.0 conversion from a Tracker, and the blocks are the same.
