Toy trans w/dual marlin cases
« on: October 22, 2011, 05:19:47 AM »
I have a 95 4 dr. Im considering a toy trans with the marlin dual cases with toy axles and toy driveshafts. I already have Trailtough's SAS kit in it and 4.1 gears in the case but I still want the better gears the dual case setup has. Has anyone got this setup ? Will the toy sensors hook up to the Kick wiring with no problems and not throw codes and be able to pass smog ?

93 4dr Kick, stock, + 95 4dr W/TTough kit, Toy axles, 4.24 xfercase gears, 5.71 gears, Ramsey 9500 winch, twin stick xfercase, 33" BFG's
97, 4dr with a 2" lift (needs an engine re-build)

My research says yes.  And I am using a Toy speed sensor on my input shaft (much cheaper than Suzuki).
Since you are talking about sensors, you must have an automatic.  Both Suzuki and Toyota use the Asian Warner transmissions, with the differences being the Bellhousing, Input shafts, Output shaft, and Torque converters.  I have seen indications that Toyota may have its own wiring plug on transmission, so that may have to be changed also (or converted).  And transmissions have to be same model (4 speed, 5 speed, etc.)  On newer systems that are running Canbus electronic controls, they must be speaking exactly the same language and you may have to use the Suzuki TCM (which should do the same controls).
Presumably you have to:
  • Change Bellhousing on Toy trans. to Suzuki
  • Change Input shaft on Toy trans. to Suzuki
  • Leave Suzuki Torque converter on motor
  • Install the ultimate
  • Build new mounts for the ultimate
  • Convert Toyota rear drive line, and size correctly
  • Lengthen the front drive line and install correct flange for Toy TC

NOW, this winter I am going into another modification phase on my tracker, and as I will have the motor and transmission/tc removed, it would be a good time to research and attempt this Technical, and Very Difficult swap.  By allowing me to work out all the issues and test whether it is necessary to even do at all, you would not have the pressure of screwing up your prize rig.  I should be able to have all work done in time to demonstrate it to you in MOAB this spring.  Not many members would do this (I can only think) would do this to their own rigs, just so you DO NOT have to try it on your own vehicle, but sometimes I get generous beyond belief.

I am looking forward to how this goes.  Obviously I have given it some thought, but have not found the equipment yet.
93 Tracker,XL7 springs & 1" raised spring pads in front with YJ springs in back, home built bumpers rear & front (w/winch), 2" x 4" rock tubes,  ARB front & rear, converted Sami rear to IFS, 33x12.5x15  aluminum rims, roll cage, 2.7L w/5 speed auto.

No it's a 5 speed I have. RingR has an adaptor to use the toy trans. I just want to get away from using double cardigan driveshafts. I already blew the back of the transfer case off on my 98 2dr SAS tracker while towing. A Suzuki case isn't made to support the weight of the DC driveshaft. If I get it all together I'll meet you in Moab  8)
