All my previous "rock" trail machines had automatic transmissions.
I am considering switching this 5 speed to an auto.
Trail Tough says that the Tracker 4 speed automatic will not work with my 2.3 Aerio engine because the trans needs to be controlled by the ECU.
I believe the Aerio engines had transverse transmissions.
TTough said a 3 speed trans is mechanical and not controlled by the ECU, but would not have over drive like the 4 speed auto does.
Unless I am going down hill, I seldom us 5th gear with 5.38 ring and pinion on 35" tires.
I guess that the Tracker 3 speed (model TH180) is direct drive (1 to 1) in 3rd gear.

Any idea what ratio a Tracker 5 speed is in 4th gear?
The Tracker 3 speed is an easy chain over with the parts supplied by Trail Tough.

Does anyone have an opinion how I might like the 3 speed auto in comparison to the 5 speed manual that I cruise in 4th?

I'm not familiar with the TH180, but I believe I've read somewhere that third is a 1:1 ratio, as is fourth on the five speed manuals.  I can confirm that the Tracker four speed is electronically shifted, but it's my understanding that there is a mechanically shifted version of it - Trackers use the 03-72LE, the mechanical version is the 03-72L (the E suffix denotes electronic controls), also known as the A44DL - used By Toyota Volvo & Mitsubishi.

As you said, Google confirms that the 3 speed auto in 3rd and the 5 speed manual in 4th are 1 to 1.
Trail tough did not mention that any Suzuki products came with mechanically shifted 4 speeds.
Thanks for the 03-72L and E part numbers.
Possibly the A44DL used by Toyota, Volvo and Mitsubishi could be sourced from an auto dismantler and the Tracker transfer case will bolt up to it and the bell housing, torque convertor and splines will match up.
