yep, changing plugs today on one, will try to let you know how it went, codes said it was missing on one and two so will swap coil packs to three and four and see how that goes.

i think i might have found my problem, the store gave me +6 heat range bosch plugs and the kick needs +7
at least that's what the bosch site says.

Well i put the plugs in and it helped a little bit but number four is dead now so I made a phone call and was told that the coils get corroded on the inside and that they come apart and you can clean them so I will try that in the next couple of days and see how that goes, I'm going to order a couple of used ones just in case I take a hammer to them if they give me any problem at all Lol.

What kind of plug did you buy? I hope it was not a +2 or a +4.

I just don't like plugs that have more than one ground to go to, it just confuses the electricity at high rpm's, you can cut them back (all but one on each) and make a good plug out of them and even index them if you want to while your doing it (I know I'm showing my age) it all depends on how hard you drive your rig.

I had the same problems on my 97 1.8L. It is the coil packs. They start to go bad and arc through the rubber onto the surrounding metal. I used cheap NGK plugs all the time and they worked great. Get the coil packs off ebay but watch which ones you get, the model year is critical. They make several ones that only fit certain years.

The 96 & 97 use a different coil pack to the 98 - on those years the ignitor is a separate module, on the 98 the ignitor is built in to the coil pack.

There is absolutely no confusion occuring at high rpm's, what you get is dillution, with more than one ground strap the electrical charge can use multiple straps at the same time reducing the current seen at each ground strap, and with a reduced electrical charge at each ground strap you get misfires.
