Preference on skid plates - gen 1 tracker
« on: March 27, 2018, 06:19:27 PM »
Hey, I have a 90 tracker.

Starting with 2” B.B. and 235/75 MTs - thinking the Calmini 3” w/EDSES down the road.

I want to do full skid plates front back to transfer case. I am seeing two options.

Calmini- $550 and who knows how long it will take to get them. It adds a steering stabilizer and brace (do you think the SS and brace is a positive thing?)

Altered Ego - $430 (CAN)  not sure on the lead time with these? Anyone have a guess at shipping cost? Leaning this way depending on shipping.

What’s your input on skid plates?

If you watch picnpulls you can find stock skid pans for reasonable prices.
I have made my own following stock lines, and that is required if you are running diff drop brackets.  I made mine out of 12 gauge material, wh9ich is a little lite if you are crawling over bigger obstacles.  I ended up running a 1" angle welded flat to the top side of skid pan to keep it frow bending  when turtling over rocks and logs.  I did the same stiffening to my back skid pan, and I am happy with them now.
93 Tracker,XL7 springs & 1" raised spring pads in front with YJ springs in back, home built bumpers rear & front (w/winch), 2" x 4" rock tubes,  ARB front & rear, converted Sami rear to IFS, 33x12.5x15  aluminum rims, roll cage, 2.7L w/5 speed auto.

I have a '98, 2dr Tracker and am using a factory front skid plate and Altered Ego plates to cover the rest of the underside.
