Twin stick modification question
« on: December 04, 2015, 05:50:38 PM »
I am going to be converting my X-90  transfer case (same as a Tacker t case), to a twin stick. There seems to be some varying info about what needs to be removed (other than the detent ball) to get it to work correctly. Once the case is opened, is the detent ball that is located between the two shafts the only thing that needs to be removed, or is there more to it than that? I am sure I could figure it out once I have it out, apart, and on the bench, but since some people on here have already done this, I figured I could save myself some time, by simply asking. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks guys!!!

Yes, you need to remove one little steel ball between the two shift rails. This ball prevents moving two shift rails at the same time. To get to this ball you have to remove the front housing of the transfer case and remove the one shift rail to get the ball out. then re-assemble. It is pretty simple but does require removing the transfer case from the vehicle.

Great, thank you for the verification. That was what I thought, however it is nice to hear it from someone else. That way if I mes up, it was someone else's fault......just kidding. Thanks again!

It's been a long time since I did my twin sticks. I didn't have to split the case. I was able to pull one of the sensors and get it out with a magnet. I can't rember what was involved but it was a easy.

Not sure how different the Kick case is but I removed the ball on my Samurai when I installed the new gears years ago. I think you had to open it up to remove that ball. The other ball turns on the 4WD light. I installed Siamese Twin sticks last year and did not have to remove the T-Case. Everything was from the top but again, that's a Sammy.

As far as I'm aware, the Sidekick transfer case has to be split to remove the interlock ball - the ball sits between the shift rods, and the high/low shift rod has to be removed to get the ball out.

Zuk e, yes all I had to do was remove a ball from the top of the t case. I used one of Stans kits.
