im lookin for info on stretching my 87 sami.  id like to go from the stock ~80" to 90-92".  does anyone have any info on what all is needed?  id like to stretch both f/r so i can keep the weight ratio as close to equal as possible.

Are you looking to stretch out the body as well, or just your suspension?

im hopin to do the body at a later time but ya.  the cab of a sami is a little shy on the cargo space for 2 dogs and anything else.  that looks amazing.  thats really good!  i dont know how i missed it on my searching

Yea, that was pretty amazing work.   Sometimes the older threads are a little hard to find. 

Yes there are skinny Radial Tires available,
I was trying to match the tires that you had mentioned earlier on an old Jeep.

If want to still search for old Bias Ply's, I think they went to a "Letter First" denotation
some like a G-78-15.

And yes, I do think a skinny tire works great in most app's.

I have a 90" wheelbase. its not that hard. If you go to a coil rear, use a front drive shaft for a rear driveshaft and it will make it 90" also you only have to carry one spare. i welded on new tabs where the leaf springs mount to. you will probably have to raise your gas tank though. and i didnt have to cut the spring perches off the axle just put the coil brackets over them. I will actually be selling my axles in a month or two since im upgrading if you are buy CT. ill try and find a picture for you

That would be sweet to do both, but....
IMO the Samurai already has a good approach angle, it the departure angle thats low. Also if you move the front axle you are going to be getting into custom driveshafts which means a lot of money and if you are splitting the difference between the two axles, then that means two custom driveshafts. Plus its a lot more work. would you go to coils in the front or keep leafs? BC if you keep leafs in the front and extend the frame you will still be left with the same approach angle. If you go coils all around your on road driving wont be as good and will cause a lot of body roll. Leafs do a lot for stability.  thats the reason we used the front shaft as a rear, only one spare is needed and its 9" longer than the front. Where are you located. i will be selling my axles next month. Good luck, let me know if you come up w something else, im curious.

ya, id do a 4 link also of course and i already have toy axles.  im thinkin ill just stretch behind the doors and infront of the rear tires bc its cheaper and easier.  if it seems like its really light on the ass end then ill just deal. 

im already plannin on gettin custom driveshafts from high angle which is why i wanna stretch it now (instead of gettin custom shafts that are sami->toy  reg length then stretchin it and havin to get new shafts).  i dont drive my sam on the road that much and will be flat towed most places

im located in colorado about 30 min from vail as of now.  my biggest prob is that there arent alot of samurais up here and the ones that are here are dd's for ppl that dont wanna sell their tub to me to hack up.... punks haha
