Twin Stick opinions

Who out there is running a twin stick setup in their ‘Kick?  I am trying to decide if it is really what I want to do, or if it is a pie in the sky romantic idea?  Also, been looking at different setups.  There is the kit that Low Range Off Road sells, and then also a set up from Zuks Off-road.  Those who have twin sticks, which one do you have, and what are your thoughts?  The LROR setup is 300, and ZOR is 200 with the fancy interior boot.  They are definitely different setups, it looks like the ZOR just replaces the factory shifter, and the LROR replaces the whole top plate and shifter.  Both require removing the center detent ball; so no big there.  So yeah, thoughts and experiences welcome, please bring it!  And maybe it isn’t even worth doing right now...but I have the trans and case out right now, and after Christmas hopefully will be getting it put back together, so now seems like the time to get it done.

What is the benefit to these twin sticks?

Ive seen the benefit of twin transfer case's but what does having 2 levers do for the stock transfer case?

Can it lock in fwd?

A "twin stick" separates the 2WD/4WD and Hi/Low shift functions of the transfer case, allowing you to select low range without engaging 4WD.  The ability to have low range with 2WD only can be useful in situations where you need the advantage of the low gearing but are on a high traction surface - perhaps towing on a steep hill.

No, it does not allow FWD (front wheel drive), on these trucks, the rear wheels are always driven unless you fit some sort of rear drive line disconnect.

What Fordem said is correct.  Not only is this a toy, but a work rig.  It is handy to be able to get into places my F150 won’t easily fit to drag brush, trash, etc...but sometimes need that little extra bit of gearing, but don’t need the front tires binding up and tearing up the ground, since lots of times it is in a yard.  Also, it allows for more trouble free flat towing.  First time I flat towed my Kick, I found out when T Case is in “N”, the front and rear drive shafts are locked together.  In my case, flat towing 70 mph caused all the grease to fling out of a front CV thru a torn boot which made a horrible mess on the side of the rig, plus completely destroying the CV joint.  With a twin stick I believe I can keep it in full N with the drive shafts not locked together and flat tow without pulling driveshafts.

I just put my rig in 4x4 low and i dont turn the hubs. So i have 2x4 low with the stock setup. I like the look of twin sticks but i never seen what it does vs the oem setup.


I seen a few guys online with fwd available on the Suzuki's but i think they swapped to Toyota or dual transfer case's. Having the ability to go fwd would be awesome

Right now I still have the auto freewheeling hubs on, so they have a mind of their own.  The bigger thing for me is less drama when flat towing.
