need help to install lock right in the front of suzuki 413
« on: September 03, 2011, 12:32:48 PM »
Hi,

I am from India, i have a Suzuki MG 413, longer wheelbase version of samurai.

I have lock right installed in the rear, and happy with the performance, but i want to install it in the front too.

since front is 2 pin carrier i am not sure how to install it, can i use the rear carrier in the front ? any other advice or alternate solution like LSD or Locker (please provide the part number)

Regards

Yes, you need a rear carrier with the 4 spider gears to install
the locker, Trail Tough is doing these for the front of the Sidekick/
Tracker/Vitara line, you might want to get one from them all set up
if you can get it shipped to you for a reasonable charge

The best thing would be a truss, you will loose some ground
clearance, but it will keep the tubes straight.

I have wheeled long and hard, never have had a truss, but
it is a common added piece of hardware

Keep us posted on your progress

So are you saying that a lock rite locker will not fit in a front third member????  I'm confused, because i didn't think i need anything extra other than the locker and the front third.

No.  What he is saying is that the front carriers (starting in some 88.5s) have just one crosspin.  And while lockers will fit and work in these, they aren't quite as strong, since the load is being placed on a single crosspin, instead of the 3 crosspins that are found in the older carriers.
You can also use any year rear carrier (they all have 3 pins and will fit in front thirds).  If a rear carrier is used in the front, and you are going to use stock front axleshafts, you will have to swap the front 22 spline sidegears in place of the rear 26 spline sidegears.

If you snag a rear housing it is a good time to upgrade to the heavy duty front axle shafts.  Since they use the 26 spline side gears anyway.  :)
