how do I modify a 1993 1.6L 8V harness for an '87 samurai?
« on: August 23, 2012, 09:53:38 AM »
I have myself in a bind. I have run out of money for my build http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/build-diaries-how-to-diy/saving-an-87-samurai-from-the-wrecker-budget-daily-driver-plus-trails-build/ and I still need to swap the engine (turns out to have a bent rod). I am 2 grand over budget, all on credit cards, and I need to finish it so I can sell my Tacoma to pay them off. This project was supposed to have the side effect of reducing my credit card debt. Yes I am naive.
I know some of the vendors and members sell this modification, and I have supported them with the rest of the build, but I am now strapped. Sean at aftermarket4x4 is helping me with an enginge all I have left (I hope) is this harness. I have a background in electronics and will get the wiring schematics for the 1.6L from ack or zukiinfo.
I have been searching for a week and all I come up with are 16V conversions, dead links and a bookmark from last year with the pictures of the plugs missing.
Any help would be appreciated.

I picked up a 1995 sidekick to use the engine in one of my samurai's I have it out in the yard if you need me to look where a wire goes for you. I would start off by mounting the ecm and the two relays under the glove box and run the wires to the engine, you can then cut off the extra wires and then shorten and solder the wires back together then when you get it running, and ask questions from there, don't let it scare you off.

if it's a 95, it's going to be a 16V.......he is dealing with an 8V ::)

It seems like mostly I just need to remove stuff from the tracker harness that doesnt apply to the samurai, and make sure the stuff does apply goes where it should right?
I wish i had the harness in front of me so I knew what I was dealing with.
Do I need to do anything more than move wires or do I need to add resistors or relays and change polarities?

How much of the FI are you keeping, if any?  Or did you go full carb?  You haven't posted to much on the motor conversion.

Here is a wiring diagram that should work for you on the 8v so you can see how it was originally wired from suzukiinfo.com

The 89-90 is an injection only system. The 93 ECU controls fuel and ignition, the Vitara 8V FSM section is here:

The 56B ECUs are pretty much all the same.

Thanks for the wiring diagram it is currently downloading.
I have decided to go full Fuel injection since im going through all the trouble of changing the engine. also, i intend on towing a little trailer with it occasionally and i have been reading that the FI will give me a little more power and better MPG.
I just received the Corolla carb i searched everywhere for too.

Ive decided to use the corolla carb until I can get the harness figured out. It is starting to come together in my head, now that I have the harness in hand.
