Hello Guest

Is it a big deal to use 80-90w gear oil in transmission of 96 manual tracker?

Just curious if I shouldn't use 80-90 gear oil and should keep trying to find 75-90 oil?

Looking for opinions.

Thanks all.

Sup Bash, it's been a while.  :)  I use the 80-90 weight in mine without any issues.

i was told to run 80-90 by both a suzuki dealer and a specialty suzuki only shop.

i had it in my tranny and transfer case for 2 days. it was so bad i couldnt let my clutch out or it would stall in cold weather (the fluid was that thick)
granted thats in -40 degree weather. i run 75-85 synthetic in it since then and never had a problem with cold starting or running at all.

so for normal weather 80-90 is fine but if you get freakin cold in the winters its better to go with the 75-85 synthetic.

Out of curiosity, what weight motor oil do you run in those temperatures?

I would go only with full synt 75W-90 gear oil, even though I'd live in hot Florida or California! Don't understand the economy of $10-$15 and having issues in winter, worse mileage and worse wear and tear of transmission/diff components.

Just my 2 cents.
