Depends on what shackles you choose.... and the number of leaves you retain in the spring pack. It is possible to run 33 - 38 if you choose too.

stock shackles
long shackles
reverse shackles
bone shackles
missing links

I am pretty sure if you run yj's / missing links / & a 4 spring pack 34's will fit with ease and comfort.

Geared low.  I would say 30's tops.  Mine is geared stock and 30's are sucky on the road.  I wish I was geared low for off road too.

my stock gearin pushed my 33s around ok around the neighborhood but i didnt take it on the hwy or anything.  for almost all offroading you'd have to put it in 4lo id imagine.
if a bigger hammer, bigger tires or more gas doesn't help... your doing it wrong.

a few variables involved ...
are your fenders cut or stock ?
what do you mean by "tranny is geared low" and how low is your low ?
most guys have lower gears in the ring and pinion and/or the t-case.
what engine are you running ?

Here are a couple of online calculators for gearing, although they don't take into account if you are running a 60hp engine or a 100hp engine.
http://www.lepayne.com/gears.html
http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

Keep in mind when gearing/tires what you plan on doing with it (off-road or on-road or both)
Mine took a couple times of gearing to figure out the way I should have done it in the first place.
I am still trying to wear out a set of 31" tires so I can go to a 33" tire.

One thing to remember also with bigger tires, is that they weigh more than
smaller tires. The combined weight of 1 of my 33" LTB Swampers and the
rim is about 60 Lbs, and makes a stock wheel and tire feel like a toy.

What I'm getting at is the rotational mass, like adding a heavy flywheel
to an engine, makes it rev slower, and 4 heavy rotating tires, in addition
to the lever action of a tall tire will make your little motor feel really sluggish,
gears help reduce the tall tire affect, but you still have a much heavier mass
spinning under you, so no amount of gearing, even if it specs out as it would
if it were stock on stock rubber, will get back the pep it once had, for that to
be back takes more torque, like a bigger engine or boosting the engine you have
