How much lift is too much lift?
« on: September 02, 2011, 07:54:08 PM »
I just installed some OME springs from an XL-7 with 1 inch spacers into a 2001 Chevy Tracker (the XL-7's have a smaller top on front coils, but they fit).  I did not measure the distance in fender clearance before but now I have about 9 inches from the top of my almost 31's.  Is this too much, I was warned against it?  I also have OME struts with 2" extensions a 2" body lift and the transfer case/pan hard relocate brackets from the UK, plus truck has heavy add-ons front and rear.  Have not driven it yet, waiting for steering rack boots to arrive in the am then its off to find an alignment this holiday weekend.

One of the issues with a large lift is the front CV angle.  If it is to great you will break front axles when climbing in four wheel drive.

5 inch Drop

My springs collapsed today when i started engine and did a lock to lock turn.  The winch and mount most likely add 150 pounds but the OME springs were bought second hand so I am assuming they are the problem.

Looks like the rears are in the front and visa versa.
The front springs have larger diameter wire.

No way, I feel like a fool.

I swapped them out and now I have a mini monster

I have over 7 and a half inches clearance for now
