2004r install
« on: March 06, 2011, 09:21:53 AM »
ok guys going to do it  picked up my mildly built buick 231 today, what does it take to put the 2004r automatic behind that into the samurai.  right now I have about 6 inches of lift.  spoa and shackles.  do I need to do any tunnel work and what is the best way to adapt the driveline in.  this is a mild off road machine 80

ok guys going to do it.  picked up my mildly built buick v 6 today.  have a 2004r automatic tranny for it in the works.  what does it take to put this in the tunnel of my 88 samurai.  currently running spoa and shackles for lift  believe about 7 inches of lift total.  what is the best way to adapt this to my transfercase also?
thanks.

forgot to ask also can the buick be mated to my brand new samurai  5 spd tranny I have currently?  couldn't find anything in advanced adaptors for this.

I'm not sure about mounting the Samurai 5 speed to your Buick V6, but a customer adaptor will probably be required.  As for mating the 200-4R to the Sammy T-Case a custom drive-line should do it.  Just have the current jack-shaft modified to fit.

Is there a particular reason you are putting the Buick V6 in the Sammy?  Most find the 1.6 or 2.0 conversion enough power and a lot easier to install.

I had to ask the same thing? do the research and talk to people about it. that v6 will really change the weight bias therefor change handling, stopping, and most of all wheeling ability. its gunna be a pusher.(too much mass if front of vehicle centerline).

I know when you have a idea you dont want any nay-sayers but just really think about it.(I have been around quite a few v6 sammys)

well truthfully because I like power.  I don't want to have to mess with fuel injection, the motor was in my buddys shop  so its free and I got the trans.  complete for it for 350 bucks and everything else I can fab myself.

my car till very reciently had a 231/2004r and Ive had a samurai with a 231/th350  I had to widen the bottom of the tunnel to clear the 350 with no body lift   I left the transfercase in the stock location on the samurai and that didnt leave room under the hood for a radiator plus made it pretty front heavy but it wheeled like a champ  I did break u-joints pretty easy
on my spitfire  every thing is a little farther back&down the 2004r rear mount sits on the stock trans x member and that meant moving the t/c back a little  it just took a drive shaft w/gm slip yoke& a samurai flange to hook to the t/c . I got tired of breaking rear drive shafts so I have some samurai flanges that use 1/2 ton u-joints . with the 231/2004r the 373 gears work great  I had that set up in the spitfire for 10 years simple & dependable  now Ive got a 4.3  vortec/2004r
my advice would be to get your engine as far back as you can
If I have to understand don't bother explaining
