Adding AC to a 95 Tracker 4x4 16 Valve
« on: September 17, 2011, 10:16:23 AM »
I found a 95 Tracker I want to buy but being in Florida you need AC - Can it be added?  What do I need to look for under hood?  What about the controls and cables inside?
01 Tracker - OME Springs, 2" MK1 Body Lift, Warn 6K Winch, 18x9 Wheels, Rear Roll Cage and more.  95 Tracker with all Calmini bolt ons.  96 X-90 with mini lift and Super Swampers, this one has A/C and is an auto, nice.

You are going to end up taking the dash all apart to install the
evaporator and running the lines, as well as you need the brackets
and pump, the crank pulley and install the condenser and fan in
front of the radiator, are you sure you don't just want to find one
with a/c already installed? sure you can do it, but what a PITA it
is going to be, I'm not sure I would want to tackle that, and I did
the first 8V turbo setup that I know of

I agree with you, I may just buy it, use it for the winter then pull the parts and install onto one with A/C.  The one I am looking at has everything in the world but A/C.
Take a peek, you may recognize it if you are from Cincinnati or Virgina.

No, I'm in California, but that's a nice truck, I think you might
want to get it and swap over the parts too.

I didn't get air and it's hot here, so you could get used to it there
just see how it goes

It's different on the east coast Wild, the humidity is KILLER and it can make just 85 degrees seem miserable. I've lived in the west,  and 95 doesen't even compare to 85 and 85 % humidity.  Find one with AC. ;)

Yeah, that is a nice truck, it may be worth it to the new owner to do all the work, but I wouldn't. I may only use my AC sporadicly during the summer, sometimes fall, spring too, but it's the difference between being miserable and enjoying the ride. Maybe the soft tops are better at letting air into the cab, but if that air is soaking wet it's still miserable. I'm still dreaming and planning for the day when I can move back out west. Screw the AC

I put a '98 Sidekick's a/c system in my X-90 (didnt have a/c) and did it in an afternoon. It wasn't that hard and the dash didn't have to come out. I only had to remove the glovebox and the metal bracket under it and the blower box. If a '95 Tracker is anything like a '98 tracker or '96 X-90 then it shouldn't be that hard. The tube between the blower and heater box gets removed and the evaporator box bolted in it's place. Lines were easy to run. The consensor was the most time consuming because the radiator had to come out to slip it in there. Even though my car didn't have a/c, the wiring connectors were all there and the a/c harness pluged right in. Even the fuse was already there. :) Remember to get both a/c harnesses. There's one outside in the engine bay and one inside that connects the a/c amplifier to the main harness.
