Engine swap and schematic help needed.
« on: September 20, 2011, 10:58:02 PM »
I have a question for some of the people who have done engine swaps.

I'm dealing with these 3 cars:
'02 v6 4-door Tracker 4wd Automatic
'99 2.0L 2-door Tracker 4wd Automatic
'96 1.6L X-90 2wd 5-speed

I'm junking the '99 for it's drivetrain and putting that 2.0L in the '02. The 02's v6 is going in the X-90. The v6 X-90 build can be ignored for now. I already know that headache.

The main engine harness, at least on the 2.0L, goes through the firewall right to the ECU and has one connector to the main harness. What are the odds that that connector is the same for the 2.0 as it is for the v6?

It should have all the power, signals, and grounds that are needed. The only signals I can think of going back into the main harness from the ECU are tach and diagnostic signals. All of these could be re-pinned if need be. It seems the complication may lie in the O2 per-heaters and O2 signals. My Mitchell On-Demand doesn't show me connector pinouts. :( I think All-Data does but I don't have it.

Does anyone have the pin-outs for those connectors, that show the function of each pin, for both the '99 and the '02?

Go over to www.suzuki-forums.com and ask for an FSM for the Grand Vitara - Max will respond with a link that you can download it from, it will have the pinouts for the 99 & the 02

I tried it first by swapping the '99 main harness in my '02 and I lost to much functionality. Lost power mirrors, cruise, turn signals and rear defrost.

I decided to just sell the v6 Tracker and buy another v6 for my project.

Probably easier that way.  Did you put the 2.0L back in the 99 or did you not get to the point of swapping the motor?

The '99 was disassembled completely. I have a 2.0L engine on the garage floor and parts everywhere. I never pulled the v6 engine because I wanted to verify the harness would work first. The '02 dash wasn't too hard to pull but it does take awhile. The original harness is back in the '02 and it's all back together working fine. I have no dash rattles now. :) I did find a '00 2.0L 4x4 4dr Tracker with a thrown rod that I'm trying to get my hands on. My '99 engine is a drop in for that. I can sell that Tracker and have enough for a nice low miliage v6 for the X-90 build. I'll make enough off it to get rods and pistons too. :)
