spartan locker

has anybody used a spartan in a sidekick? i have a 96 sport that i purchased one for it from trail tough and it did not work correctly. i ended up having to send it back and brent sent me a lock rite instead which works great. my main reason for this post is to praise  trail tough for their awesome customer service. they earned a repeat customer with me. good post sale service is hard to come by anymore.

haven't tried the spartan locker but i do have a lock rite.  kind of quirky, but definately gets the job done.  I ordered my 4.24:1 rock monster gears from them and they answered a few questions i had during the install.  Youre also right about finding good customer service.  Lowrangeoffroad.com also has great service also.  glad things are working out for you now

I'm curious, you say it didn't work correctly.... how so? What didn't work? Fitment? Function? I ask because I'm considering a locker & have read the Spartans have less 'clicky clunking' issues, which for me would be good since mine is mainly a DD. Guess I was really hoping the Spartan would work.

the problem was that it would act as a spool most of the time and when it would unlock to let the outside tire in the turn spin faster it was very violent. pretty sure my  particular locker had a manufacturing flaw. the lock rite i now have works great. my kick is an automatic which helps these type lockers work smoother.

go lock rite. they are the originator of this type locker and been building the longest. i have had three in different vehicles with no problems.

That is often a sign that its not shimmed correctly.

I figured I would add to this thread.
I recently installed a Spartan into a 94 Sidekick rear diff.  Removed sidegear thrust washers as instructed.  Each side had a thin one and a thicker one.  Assembly went easy and didn't require shaving the cross pin block as I was warned would probably be needed.  Once diff was assembled, it was verified that the internals weren't pinched and all looked ok.  Test drive showed the rear end to act like a spool and make nasty clunking / snapping noises going straight and turning.  (FYI: I've had a lockrights front & rear in my samurai for over 10 years so I know how these lockers sound and feel)
So, we broke it all down again.  Suggestions from the experts varied from it being too loose to it being too tight.  We banked on it being to loose on the outside of the sidegears (externally) and too tight between the locker gears / crosspins (internally).  So we replaced the thicker thrust washers onto the sidegears.  This required grinding the cross pin block to allow the crosspins to install smoothly and result in no binding.  Once diff was all together, we again verified nothing was pinched and that the locker looked & felt good.  Put it back together and went for a spin.  It now unlocks but gives a pretty violent snap / pop on each tooth.  I assume the shimming is still incorrect, but we got it closer to being correct by doing what we did.  I really don't want to tear it down again without having a good game plan.  Any suggestions out there?

Thanks...
