Engine bogs in second gear
« on: June 16, 2015, 11:37:22 PM »
So I just got another engine from samurai salvage it's supposed to be 100+hp I have the weber 32/36 with the vent mod pace setter header 2 1/4 exhaust and an electric fuel pump that runs 1.5 to 4 pls. The timing is set at 13°btdc for my elevation and mods, it idles wonderfully and revs fine without a load (in park) going through  1st gear the engine stumbles around 4500 where I shift normally in 2nd gear it bogs down hard around 3700 almost like it's floating  the valves. I'm at a stand still with it as the engine doesn't have 10 miles on it yet and its still not drivable. Any ideas tips or info would help.
10.5x1 flat top pistons .030 over 272 isky cam all aluminum radiator long tube pace setter header  2 1/4 exhaust thrush turbo muffler 6.5 tcase low range off roads spoa ruf stretched 3.5 inches missing links all the way around welded rear rhino lined top to bottom inside custom rattle can paint job 30 inch Firestone destination mt RTI score 746. I like to take my fishing pole wheeling, and my crawler fishing!

Kind'a sounds like a carb/fuel issue.Your carb, is it new to you or is it one you've run on another engine.?And is your fuel pump put'n out 1.5 to 4 p.s.i. ? that sounds way to low for your "built"motor.Have you heard any "pops"threw the carb or exhaust.?I'd look for vacuum leaks and vac. advance is work'n in the distributor if the fuel side is good. Just some idea's.Good luck

The carb is only 5 months old, as for the furl pump  carbs don't like high fuel pressure the mechanical pump on a sami only runs 3psi

No vacuum leaks vacuum advance tested fine is it holds 15 lbs of vacuum I'm thinking I need to adjust my float so I get more fuel in the bowl I'm going to try that and get back on here with the results

Thats good.I have'nt played around with a Weber carb but i built 4MV Quadrajets for GM motors, they like 6 to 8 p.s.i.with a new needle & seat assy.Anyway your problem sounded like a fuel issue off the top of my head. Most of the time when motor goes lean under heavy load you'll have "lean backfire" or pop threw the carb and sometime exhaust,if its power enrichment circuit.
LOL as for the fuel pressure I forget we are deal'n with engines 1/3 c.i.d. size I used to play with.

Just got it figured out my float was out of adjustment no more issues with it bogging it's actually running extremely strong I punched the gas and lifted the front tires off the ground about an inch according to the neighbor
