4.3 swap
« on: May 29, 2012, 02:22:15 PM »
I have a 94 s10 blazer with a 4.3 and a samurai with the mounts in it so basicly I have an engine block and nothing else. What is the bare minimum I'd need to swap over from the blazer for it to run. Iv never did an engine swap before so its new to me but I am trying it anyway haha

Not an easy job, iniazy has a Nissan vortec? build thread on another forum.  But it came from a sedan- on ZK

Would give you an idea of what you may have to do. There's got to be build threads in here, search them?

Yeah mines the first year of the vortec and I have the whole blazer together right now still runs and all. Samurai actually has a vortec long block sitting in it now its locked up so that's why I bought the blazer and I figured I could use most parts off of it already to make it run. And I havnt searched many build threads yet havnt had a lot of time yet but ill have to keep looking

if it all possible, but it may be too late, the TBI 4.3s are much simpler and wayy easier to swap into things. I know the vortec engines can be a wiring nightmare.

If your samurai already has vortec mounts in it, that is a good start.  It is going to be a squeeze to putting it together, and VERY time consuming.  You need to know what makes the vortec run, electronics, fuel system, transmission/transfer case, etc.  You will probably need to do some welding and fab a lot of parts.  In able to make this work, you really need to be determined to make it work.  It is not cheap, but having a running parts rig will be a good asset.  It is not a plug & play (but you can probably find a P&P wiring harness).
This will make your Samuai very front heavy, not the nimble little light weight go anywhere rig it started out as.  And you will always be working on it.  Have fun.  Take lots of photos, post up questions and how it is going.  Any one who has done a swap understands when it just seems to have stopped, but you can get through that.

I can probably use the vortec but just swap a Tbi on top of it? I'm sure I can find the parts easy enough or find an older s10 or blazer with this set up

Have not done this swap but did swap a sami to a megasquirt fuel injected 16v.  I can tell you for simplicity, go carb if possible. That will free some of your frustrations up for other stuff! You can probably part out some of the FI stuff and recoup the rebuild kit money if thats all you lack to covert it.

Well I defiantly am gonna go with the carb set up and I have a quadrant carb and manifold. The carb is pretty bad might just find a nicer used one instead of trying to rebuild and the manifold is rusty any one have any tips from removing rust. Maybe a good liquid to soak it in

been thinking of doing the same thing, 4.3 V6 with a dana44 front and dana60 rear. saw a few videos of the 4.3 conversion on youtube and they look and sound great. really want to do it this winter! keep us posted of the build would really love to see some more details on the whole thing.

as far as i can see it would be pretty simple. theres a site you can buy the transmission mounts and other parts you need. http://www.suzukiconversion.com/suzuki_kits.htm and with stock headers you have plenty of room for everything. i've searched youtube for some videos and this is a good one
Suzuki Chevy V6 Samurai
im thinking im going to do this swap this winter, but im going to put dana 60 with 37's under my samurai.

The 4.3 and 350 engines use the same carb? I thought they did but I wanna make sure before I go out and spend the cash on a new carb.
