First Mod. Tach installed
« on: February 28, 2011, 05:57:21 PM »
So I bought an aftermarket tachometer. While deciding where I would mount it i noticed that between the two heater vents is a circle indented in the dash board. What was supposed to go there? A clock maybe? Anyone know how difficult it might be to drill that out with a dremel and run my wiring through the firewall and mount my tach there. Is there anything behind there that might make this tough? Planning to tackle this tomorrow. If I mount the tach somewhat turned in there I should be able to see it pretty well.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Well if is a round vent Samurai you correct that is where the clock would be. No there isn't anything behind it for about 3". It should drill out pretty easy. And.. you could run your wiring out through the grommet that is behind the glove box. Then the wires can run through the wire loom accross the firewall and drop out behind your distributor......

A somewhat simple but I think very important modification. I installed a sunpro 2 5/8 tachometer. I put it in the place where the clock would normally be located. Wired up and working well. AND SO IT BEGINS!!

Next thing is some diamond plate door panels to replace the tattered factory ones.

Nice job.... I like it! Did you steal the power source for the tach light from the clock wiring harness?
