Gents,

Appreciate your inputs concerning the noise reduction. I have installed a new windshield with silicone all around, installed sound deadening material in the doors, floors and roof.

The issue now is that after 100 KPH i hear wind noise from the corners on the windshield and the doors??

Any input would be highly appreciated.

The sammi's and Sidekicks with a soft top will always produce some wind noise, it is the nature of the beast.

Unfortunately it's a head top.

HEAD TOP   

I have both tops... On the soft top I found that the vinyl wrap that covers the windshield to the targa bars just didn't completely fill the door gap void.

When I installed the hard top it was worse becaue I had to remove the vinyl wrap. What I did was go to the hardware store and bought foam strips that have a double faced edging in them. I found this in the area by the air conditioners. It is used to fill the gap around the windows when the air conditioner is set.

No more problems... I also found that with my hard top (it is a 2 piece) that I had to spend extra time with the adjusting latches getting them to seal properly. I had to trim the outer seal above the windshield corners on the front top to get it to seat deeper too.

I can't speak if this is normal or not because this is the 1st time that this top had ever been on this Samurai so I assume I needed to tweak it in order to have a proper fit.

Once I had done this everything was great. With the exception of the stock tire carrier rattling the back door due to the weight. I fixed this by building a swing out tire carrier and now the Sammy is bone quite going down the road. Enough so that I am going to put the AM/FM/CD player in it soon since I can now have some sense of security with the hard top vs. the open access of the soft top.

Yeah that closed cell foam used around A/C units works awesomely for that, I have also used the foam for around doors as well.

Mine is a hard top sidekick, could you please explain more about installing the foam around the doors?

Yesterday i managed to tilt the doors deeper into the body just to squeeze the rubber a bit more, minor changes noticed.

I was referring to putting foam around the doorjambs, use the foam meant to weatherproof around household doors to help seal around the doors, it is sticky backed on one side only. It could be applied to the chassis to make up for the rubber seal aging and contracting, just apply where the marks are on the doorjamb from the rubber seal are. It wont look nice but will work untill you get new weatherstripping.

Just throwing this idea out there..... I have noticed on my 98 4dr tracker that the door gsk. that is on the body is a hollow foam gsk. that is on the pinch mld.   I have seen some small round real soft foam at a automotive paint store in town that I was thinking someone could remove the mld from the car & slide the round foam inside to give it more body.  Might have to close the door harder, but I think it might work... Just a thought 

I have seen people insert small dia silicon tubing into the rubber door seals to enhance their dia. You can get the tubing at a hobby shop that carries R/C aircraft,boats and/or cars.

Mine is also a hardtop and also got some wind noise from that area. Solution was to GENTLY bend the top front corner of the window frame in towards the cab a bit. A LARGE socket  or piece of hardwood wedged between door frame and body, and just push, a little at a time , on the upper forward corner of the window frame, closing and checking fit every time until a good seal is made. Make sure the window is down first.
They (doors) tend to get flexed some and it's not unusual for them to leak after awhile.   

One thing I found in fitting my new to me hard top on the Samurai for the 1st time was that I needed to modify the windshield to gasket area as it rounds the corners in the direction of the doors. I felt like this area needed to sit down more. There was a visable gp in this area on both sides.

In order to modify these areas to sit lower / tighter I took an angle grinder and opened up the channel in the rubber molding that seats along the upper windshield lip. I ground out about a 1/4 to 3/8 of and inch in depth for about 3" in length. This helped a ton. It allowed the rubber gasket to set flush across the windshield and in it's transition across the windshield to the upper door targa support bars.

I also utilized the foam strips I mentioned earlier on the lower portion of the bottom portion of thee windshild to targa support bars. This is the area that the upper door window channel and inner gasket is supposed to mate up against each other. I had a gap in this area as well that was only noticable with the hard top.

Once I placed the foam in this area I no longer had any gaps or problems.
