Tracker Steel Diff Components
« on: February 09, 2016, 12:06:40 PM »
Hello All,

I've had all types of toys but I'm fairly new to the Tracker stuff. I have read a couple articles and posts but I'm still confused on the different models. I'm looking to replace the aluminum front diff carrier and axle housing in my 98 Tracker to the steel units found in some of the later models. Could someone clarify from which model I can find the steel differential 3rd member and which model had the steel housing with the larger mounting lug at the pinion. Also, what is needed to install a limited slip in the front. I read that some were using modified rear Samurai units. Will any year Samurai unit work? I have the machining equipment but would need to know what needs modified to make it work.

99-03 grand vitara with a 5-speed will have the steel diff and should bolt right up, but it will have the air actuated front diff so you will have to change out your front third to get rid of it. A lot of guys that go steel go arb in the front cause they are to hard on the front
