16valve 1.6 turbo, which injectors

95 Geo Tracker with Audi turbo, no intercooler. We have an Air/Fuel gauge. We are wondering if anyone else has a similar set up that could give us a head start on how to increase fuel under boost. Thanks.

What are you doing for a ECM tuning?  I have been discussing in depth with a friend that has built several Honda turbo motors about boosting my Zuk.  You can go with an FMU, which will increase fuel pressure, which can take care of your issues if needed.  You can also upgrade to a higher flowing fuel pump.  For increased fuel flow you can increase injector pulse width or fuel pressure.  Are you currently running lean?  Any idea what your injector pulse widths are?  If your injectors are at 100% duty cycle, then you will need to upgrade injectors, but you may not be at that point.  How much boost are you running?  Did you fab your manifold?

Right now we have stock tuning. Changed the pump in the fuel tank to an upgraded version. We ran it last year until the old motor got blow by and low compression. We just put in a brand new stock engine and are more concerned with what everyone else was running. We anticipate 4-5lbs of boost. We have stock injectors from ebay, We cannot determine the poundage on the injectors. We were unaware of what ECM tuning was available. We are very interested in what's available as far as tuning goes, and where to get it. We have not run it yet to determine lean, but want to have parts available to tune when we get a chance to work on it. The exhaust manifold is fabricated. we bought a kit from a guy and modified it.

You need to run a wide band 02 sensor.  The OEM O2 sensor won't properly read the AF ratios you are going to want to run with the Turbo.  The Fuel Management Unit is the easiest and cheapest solution for you, but you need the Wideband to help you with data.  That will get you results, but something like a Microsquirt ECU would be the ideal solution.  Around $400 for the ecu and wiring harness last I checked.  That is going to give you the best drivability, ignition control, injector control, etc.

You need around 30 pph injectors, you also need to ohm out the stock injectors to see if they are high or low Z units, stock ecm does an OK job with a turbo, but 4 or 5 psi, ya, that will change because boost is addictive 😉.  Definitely take the time to do something for an intercooler, you need it, either an air to air or water to air, which is more compact, the more cool the air the better, you can't get best power without one. And premium gas won't be enough to stop knocking, you will destroy your new engine otherwise.  I added 4x19 pph ford escort injectors to the 8v manifold, or were they 15 pph, I forget now, but they were the light brown ones. Those along with the TBI injector which is 50 pph gave me enough fuel for 10 psi boost but a little bit lean, they were maxed out in pulse width, I fired those separately from a Megasquirt 1 unit, I now have the daughter card for an upgrade to more tables and spark control / boost retard. I got some turbo Thunderbird injectors, but they totally drowned the engine and I didn't ever fix my tune before I stopped driving my kick, now it's been sitting a long time taken apart for repairs and upgrades in the driveline and I never finished her.
