Another brake conversion?
« on: December 05, 2010, 08:07:00 AM »
Sorry if this has been hashed out before, I couldn't find quite the right answers I was looking for.
I have a 92 Tracker 2d softtop 4x4, I understand that in the same years the 4 door model had larger rotors and calipers, I would like to put those larger rotors and calipers on the front (including the master cylinder).  What I would realy like to do is put those rotors and calipers on the rear as well.

1) has any body done this with any luck?

2) I think Trail Tough has a rear axle disc brake conversion kit, but it is for Samurai front calipers and rotors.  Will this work for the 4 door Tracker brakes? Aren't Samurai brakes smaller?

3) If not, is there a kit out there to do this, or is it time for some fabrication?

Thanks
Joe

Unless you get a true rear caliper, you will not have a parking brake, and that
could be a legal issue that could have you swapping back just to correct a fix
it ticket.

I was thinking about a rear disc upgrade, and found the rear disk calipers from
a Nissan Maxima (90s era) would be a good swap, as they are equipped with
the cable parking brake levers and they are made by the OEM that makes the
Sidekick calipers too, so they could be looked at as a quasi OE part on a Suzuki

While researching the swap, I ran across a thread, I beleive it was over at Zu, that covered the differences in Sammi and 'kick calipers. The 'kick brakes bolted onto the Sammi brackets, with the dust shield needing a bit of trimming to clear the larger DIAMETER 'kick caliper. The bolt spacing was the same. This was for 2dr 'kick calpiers, so that suggests that the Sammi parts kit would work on the rear of a 'kick.
