Manual transmission fluid question...

So today I changed the transmission fluid in my 94 kick. I noticed that there was only about 1-1.5 quarts that came out of the transmission. I have no idea how it was so low. I last changed the fluid a couple of years ago. I have a gear whine I've been bit concerned about so I decided to change the fluid again. I added Lucas oil stabilizer because I read that it helps quiet gear whine. Anyway I was able to get a little over 2 quarts in before the fluid began to drain back out of the fill hole.
The specs say the transmission holds 3.2 quarts. Is there always some still at a low point in the transmission so it doesn't all drain out?

Check your spec sheet,
It may be in metric as in liters,
and I have seen translated versions for the right hand drive
using the Imperial Gallons, quarts, etc....
Just a thought

I read that it holds 2.x quarts after a rebuild (dry), and 1.6 quarts when changing the fluid. I figured that this was because some of the fluid stays on the gears and case after you drain it...

Thanks for the replies. The website I got the info from was misprinted. It is in fact 3.2 pints or 1.6 quarts.
