My 93 tracker loss its BEARINGS...

Just experienced the death wheel wobble and then the grinding on the front end of my 1993 Tracker... pulled off the rim, rotor, hub assembly and my Wheel bearings were shot. Searched high and low for non cartridge type bearings... posssibly 2 piece but found out the hard way that I would have to have the old cartridge bearings pressed out and the new ones pressed in using a press at a local machine shop. Has anyone found  bearings that dont come already housed in a cartridge or more specifically more HEAVY DUTY 2 piece BEARINGS? For now my tracker is back up and running but from what I hear my bearings will only be good for 5-6 good wheeling sessions.....this sucks! HELP Anyone??????

I haven't found a " heavy duty" alternative to the stock type bearing, and I've looked.  If you replace your bearings do the races too. That means having the races pressed out, and new ones pressed in. If you don't have a press, let a pro do it. Pack the bearings with a GOOD waterproof grease, ( if you have a bearing packer use it, if not get one.) I prefer the green stuff, and torque the bearing nut to 155lbs. I run mine through water and snow quite a bit, and with regular maintenence, regular cleaning and repacking of the bearings I get many thousands of miles of wheeling and highway driving out of them. I'm also running 32x11.50 tires and the bearings hold up fine.

I only have 285,000 miles on my front wheel bearings, I think you have something
a little off in your front end, 155 Ft lbs is a little high, ya I know what the book says,
but the grease needs room to stay in between the metal parts, and at 155 it squishes
it out and probably shears the grease molecules (breakdown) and leads to failure

So far the bearings have held up great going by the book reccommended torque, and it handles fine too. I guess you can put less torque on them, but I don't think you can shear the grease molecules with that much torque.  Every time I tear them down for inspection and repacking ( like after a weekend of heavy water crossings ) they still look fine as far as the grease go's. But hey, I'm no molecular petroleum engineer.
I'm using Timkin bearings I think, that I got from Auto Zone.

BTW, 285 K! on your front bearings wild? I'm gonna have to call you on that one, I really don't believe it. Even with stock wheels and tires, under everyday normal driving conditions, they would be shot. Can you prove that?

Prove it? Well I bought the truck new, and I have never changed
the wheel bearings, but I have repacked them 2 times since new,
the first time I had about 150,000 on the clock, and then at 250,000

This was a Daily Driver, but I only ran 235s for most of it's life on stock
wheels, it wasn't until I rebuilt the engine and added the turbo at 230,000
miles that I went to the 33s and aftermarket wheels, 8" x 4" backspace
so  haven't really stressed the bearings for that long I guess, only about 50K
miles.

Still, amazing life span of the whole thing, engine, drivetrain, everything! You got a good one for sure!

Went thru another set of bearings pax side....Danger happened when the only thing holding my Rim and tire to my tracker was my 2 brake bolts!!!! removed the bolts and everything pulled right offf the spindle. Problem was the passenger side hub assembly was shot! Luckily it didnt fall off on the freeway and i got a replacement at the local tow yard for cheap! Tracker owners please check that HUB!!!!!

Do you have the lock ring with the 4 screws in it?
the wheel nut should not of come off from just driving,
that is a very dangerous situation you were in
