The gear change has become quite stiff to operate....oil level is okay do the selectors need a drop of oil on them ????

Is the clutch properly adjusted? have you checked the gearbox oil level?

Pull the shifter out of the transmission & check the shift pin & sheet.
It's could be that they either are broken or worn out.
