87 Samurai idle issue
« on: July 04, 2010, 04:39:18 PM »
Hi Guys I'm new to the forum and jsut traded a boat for an 87 soft top Samurai yesterday.  I have of course been messing around with it all day and have noticed a reoccuring issue.  I can start it and it will idle fine and I can drive it for awhile with no issues.  the next time I start it it will not idle it dies everytime I let off the gas?  It has done this back and forth several times in the last 2 days.  I was wondering if this is something someone else has fought in the past it would be nice to know where to start looking for the problem.  Also the Sensor light is stays on on the dash.

Thanks in advance,
Bone

Try turning the idle adjustment screw on the carb by the throttle cable. It may be a little low rpm and running fine until the choke opens. The sensor light should start to flash after the car warms up and it's above 1800 rpm or so. If ity doesn't flash then you have a problem with the emission/carb system and will run rich. To turn it off, there is a small slide switch under the dash by the steering column.Just slide it the opposite way. The light only comes on at certain mileages. Only slide it one way or the light will come back on.
