Timingbelt broke

Timingbelt broke

I had the tracker running good and on the way home today the belt broke. I looked in the vavle cover as we cranked it over and got no movment from the vavle train. So any one got some tips on replacement of the belt. i was thinking of getting the offset key to advance the cam 2deg to make alittle more power down low.

If its an 8V then you should be OK, a 16V may need a valve or two replaced.

It will be fine. Belts are fairly cheap.

Just dig into ACK's FAQ and get the right directions for reassembly

How tight are the belts supposed to be. I got a kit on line and the belt just seams to small. With the idler pulley loose i can barley get the belt to slip on.

Sounds OK, the tensioner doesn't have much movement

i went thru this recently...
i replaced the timing belt on my wifes and it broke 6 mos later. so when i had my mechanic do the second one i asked what i did wrong and he says i tightened it too much.
he said the rule of thumb is ... the side without the tensioner should be able to twist 45 degrees and your belt should be just right.
