noise when revving motor
« on: May 01, 2011, 10:46:03 PM »
i just purchased a 87 samurai it runs and sounds good but if you rev the motor a couple of times , it sounds like there is a loose bolt or nut getting thrown around in the engine or the tranny. it has to rev pretty high in order to make the noise. i removed the flywheel cover to see if there was anything in there, but there was not. if anyone has experienced this before, please let me know. thanks

Noises are Gremlin's and hide in strange places.

I thought I was throwing a rod once and it turned out that the 1 year old  salvagedonor engine was
wallering-out the keyway for the drive sprocket for the timing belt.

There is a resent post on this problem.

Well, i drained the motor oil today and it looked good, but when i drained the transmission oil , there was very little and some metal shavings, i think they are syncros. I think i will remove the transmission and rebuild it, has anyone done this themselves, is it possible. Or do i leave it to an expert tranny guy?

They aren't hard to rebuild.  As long as you have some mechanical aptitude, and a decent exploded tranny pic (or just lay out the pieces in the order of removal) you should be ok.
