2.0 timing

I need to set the timing on 1 99 2.0 tracker  the online chiltons says hook to a scan tool & inductive timing light  well Ive had 3 different scan tool hooked up and non of them have the functions(fixed spark mode) that the chiltons site sayto use .. is there a way to accuratley set the timing without going to a dealer( 150 miies the closest)Im about ready to drivit up & down the road & set it by feel  sombodys got to know how to do it wthout expensive tools  help a guy out

The ODBC II scanner should show you what the current timing is.  Just hook up your timing light and set it to match the readout on your scanner.

Putting the system into 'debug' mode just sets the engine at a fixed timing position to make it easier to set.  On the 96 engines you need to jump a wire to set the fixed timing mode, not sure about newer rigs.

I think the code scaners I have are cheep ones (I borrowed 3 from friends ) and non had any way to" fix "the timing it looks like better ones are availabe but I dont really want to spend 300$ on timing a 400$ car
