New to the group and to the samurai. I have a 89 model and the choke is sticking. I rebuilt the Hitachi carb on it and now the choke is not wanting to open up when the engine starts and it runs rough. Can hold open choke and it does good. I took pictures as i disassembled it and put all the rods and linkages back like pictures. Got vacuum at choke diaphragm canister. The choke plate is very stiff. I can take the linkages off and it operates easy and smooth. Any help or diagrams would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Shannon.

I guess no oneknows anything about this Hitachi type of carb. I thought that this was a group of knowledgeable people. Maybe I was wrong.

Did you do a search?  Diagrams and this topic have been discussed before.

I've searched all over the Internet and can't find anything. If you know where i can look the help would be greatly appreciated.

If you got up to the search box in the right hand side while you're backed out of any posts and type "choke" many threads will come up that discuss similar issues. A factory service manual is available the the home page under research library / downloads. It has exploded diagrams and assembly drawings of the carburetor.

My carbs have all been sticky and/or seem to operate with a mind of their own. I am currently on my fourth carb out of three Samurais.

The best working one was the one I removed, blasted with cleaner and WD-40, then compressed air. And after a year of running great, it's starting to stick again. Time to reclean.

There's a guy in a tiny carb shop at the end of a weird alley near me. He has a few reconditioned ones he sells for $300 with a core. They look brand new, if you want to go that route. He has them on Craigslist often.
