Steering Damper help
« on: January 03, 2012, 04:01:59 PM »
Just bought a kyb damper and it does not appear to match at all.  Double checked all the part numbers and it is correct. Does this require relocationof the stock mounting setup?  Any help would be great.

I just tried to order one for my Samurai from my local O'Rielly's... their parts database showed one from Rancho, that uses a stud mount on both ends, the wrong mounting scheme for my '86. I ordered the 'house brand' oem replacement instead, shown to have rubber eyes on each end, which worked perfectly.

I learned all over again, that parts books, data bases, for older vehicles is often wrong

Good luck!

I have a Rancho stabilizer on my 87. It works good and is heavier duty than the stock. It doesn't use the stock mounts though. It came with bolt on brackets. I like it.

The oem dampener is mounted to a stud just behind the front sway bar mount (points down ) and the pitman arm....Boxcar...
