Tranny noise

Tranny noise

My '93 Sidekick 5 spd has developed noise in all gears except
4th. Shifts OK. noise is not grinding but almost bearing like.

Any ideas??

And why is 4th quiet?

Just finished rebuilding a noisy transmission.  The gears and syncro's were fine, two bearings just had the race's, it got quiet when that happened (it had been noisy for a long time).  We DIDN'T get our rebuild kit from one of ZW vendors, & I was not impressed with that kit.  No instructions or even same bearings.  Get your kit from ZW vendor.  Take photo's of open case to refresh memory.  It is not difficult.
Installing Transmission this weekend.

It sounds bearing like because it is a bearing noise, probably the input shaft bearing, 4th is quiet because it's a direct drive (1:1) and the input & output shafts are coupled together, so that the input shaft is supported at both ends.

Time for a rebuild.

A rebuild is beyond my time right now...... The beast is
