Emitions System Removal???
« on: August 11, 2009, 06:34:16 AM »
Hi I am a new Zuk owner, I bought a lifted 1989 softop Samurai.  It runs great and everything works perfect even the AC.  I gave it a tune up and noticed that all the vaccum lines are brittle and hard.  I would love to eleminate all the emitions stuff.  It just seems like alot that could go wrong on the trail, start causing vaccum leaks and other problems.  Any advice on this would be very helpful.  I kinda scared to start pulling stuff off.

Thanks , Brad

My advice would be to get the correct size vacuum tubing (it's metric) and replace each tubing one by one until you have all new. I'd leave well enough alone on removing sensors and actuators because of two things. First, the old adage if it ain't broke don't fix it. Second, the Samurai system is works well and is not prone to breakage when maintained. Chances of trail strandation is very low.

Good luck and welcome,

-Eric

X2!

Nothing runs worse than a Hitachi Carb with all it's vacuum lines removed!

carefully and systematically replace all those hoses like ebewley recommends and you'll be fine.
