Consider the weight over front end. (replace steel cable helps). I cut into sub. frame to move mine back. Also i agree with the 9000lb. due to the pulling power is affected buy each roll of the cable. For example, the 1st is reel of cable on the winch is not the same as the second, and so on. Sure you can add a pully to increase pulling power but then you have less cable to reach with. And yes you can bring more cable/pull straps. Just know what your getting into. I paid 325.00 for mine at Harbor.

I got a used Harbor Freight 8k winch w/bad motor $100, replaced motor $100 and have pulled 2 jeeps, 1 Sami, and saved myself twice.  And then I pulled 5 - 40 ft bridges (made out of 2-6" & 1-3" pipe) in place over a small stream.  (It beat building them in place.)  And only one bridge touched the water once. 
Used a snatch block, chain, and two tow straps, along with the winch cable.

In the world of off roading 1 constant variable is never say never because it will happen. A person can say I"I will NEVER do that..." But , just like a Psychologist friend of mine says in rebuttal.... "We don't know that..." and he is Always rite...  Wink

 

Hmmmn.... a 3000 lb winch.... Good Luck with your purchase ..... I hope it works for you.... 

I had a 4500 Runva winch, some chinese remake of warn, they say even the parts all fit from warn, got it for $130... First thing I took it to a trail it pulled me out like 4 times and then the gears broke and the cable ripped. Now I run 6000 Badlands, works much better

hers my 8000lb csi. i was told that there the same as a warn and so far its been great  her is where it had to pull me out of

One thing to keep in mind when thinking of single or double snatching some of these
light duty winches is cable size. Even though the winch pull can be doubled or even tripled
the small diameter cable 1/4 even 3/16 isnt any stronger. Over pulling and breaking cable can
hurt you bad...just a thought. When it comes to recovery equiptment Safey = Quality

Think about this - for the sake of discussion, let's say you have a 4000lb winch, and a snatch block, you double the cable, so you have an 8000lb pull - what's the load on the cable?

8000lb pull, doubled cable, so each of the two cables will see a 4000lb load - the only thing that's going to see an 8000lb load is whatever you used to attach the snatch block to the anchor point, and the anchor point itself.

Match the cable's working load rating to the winch capacity and you'll be fine.
