Radio install
« on: May 25, 2010, 07:27:03 AM »
im trying to install a radio into my 87 samurai, the onlything that i have to mount to is the metal bracket that bends around the back of the stock radio.  id like to make it as waterproof as possible but other than fabricating a tuperware thing i have no idea as to what to do, any ideas?  ill snap a pic tonight but just tryin to get the ball rollin

The best thing you can do for water proof is to get a Marine Radio (more expensive than standard, or a marine radio mounting kit. It is a water resistant plastic box that holds the radio. They work realy good, but they are bulky and would require cutting of the dash to fit.

Crutfield does have them, but they list them in a different section:

http://www.crutchfield.com/m_215950/Marine-Stereos.html?tp=1153

A lot of them require a separate tray that they plug into though, the 'marine' aspect just gives them better shock protection.  Ebay is a pretty good place to go, or just walk through your local Marine store and write down model numbers.
