1.6 8v head to 1.3 stock engine
« on: August 30, 2009, 07:14:33 PM »
OK - I'm totally overwhelmed - Just purchased a 1.6l 8v head with exhaust, FI, all wiring, etc. to install on my 88 samurai stick 1.3l engine. The bolt on looks pretty straightforward but the wiring looks to be a nightmare - Does anyone know where a step-by-step install for the 1.6 8v head to the 1300 would be? What kind of added HP can I expect, or improved MPG? I'll need an alternator and fuel pump I know.
Thanks!

The 1.6 head will bolt onto the 1.3 bottom end, you will need to change the cam pulley and the belt. A wiring harness can be bought from Trail Tough or you can strip the 1.6 wiring out. Read up on 1.6 conversions, you will need to do the same work.

Thanks guys! I'm in Canyon City, Oregon. Guess I'll have something to do over the long weekend!
My wife is going slightly nuts - I bought the Samurai a couple of months ago and already have $2k into it! What's the best way to get the head cleaned up?

We'll do. I may take you up on the pump. I will probably be coming your way in the next few weeks.
I'll give you a call tomorrow.
