Slight throttle lag until about 4500 RPM-Started this morning
« on: February 15, 2012, 11:56:36 AM »
Hello all!

Diagnostic question. Samurai is normally running great and has many new parts. 1987. This morning when I left my home a new problem started. I will get a little less horse power then normal until my RPM's get higher, and then I get a little jolt as it seems to switch back to its normal power level. Its slight but very consistent. I'm thinking ignition coil, fuel pump, or carb issue. I already have installed the carb venturi valve, this acts kind of like that problem but feels more like a fuel or spark issue.

Please help.

Not sure if this helps but mine was doing the same thing and I thought maybe something to do with the carburetor so I was looking for a replacement. Then today it stopped, I put some Lucas fuel stabilizer in it last week when I put gas in so that would have mixes with the new and existing gas and I'm assuming it finally ran through today or last night and now she picks up and has great response through all gears. That's where I would start. Maybe you got some old or dirty gas.

Thanks! Sounds like a good idea. I had my local Mechanic at Asian auto parts advise it might be timing belt also. I'll run some seafoam through the carb and see what happens.

I'm still open to suggestions though.

Doubt if it's the timing belt itself, but it could be the dreaded key way on the lower pulley getting wallowed out.
The usual stuff, and 2nd generation Air to liquid intercooled TURBOCHARGER

seafoam is byfar this best quick fix. suck it directly into you intake via vacume lines, watch her smoke then run like new

Fixed! I redid the ground by the battery, cleaned the PCV valve out with seafoam, and seafoamed the carb,,,,again. Seems to be working great again. Not sure if it was one of these things or all. But these should probably be added to all maintenece list for Sammy.

Thanks!
