Just finished installing my Toyo conversion today. After a few hours, I'm liking it......a lot. The challenge was the throttle cable fabrication and the fuel fitting. Found fittings to get to the fuel nipple without having to tap. Four fittings. Don't like. Will shorten up the transition from carb to hose. Issue two is that my throttle bracket was not "sturdy" enough. I fabricated a brace to hold it in place but will do a new fabrication that is more significant. Tried to make it out of 18 guage sheet metal but it is not study enough for the long term. Eveything else went together well. Fired right up. Slight adjustment to the air/fuel screw and off I went. The performance from the Toyo carb confirms that my Sammi carb was on it's last leg.
I just bought tht '87 Sammi a couple months ago and started working through the FSM to assess the condition of the vehicle. I knew the carb was a big part of the problem. Started with a carb rebuild, then found out the vacuum advance had a bad diaphram, then tested out the MCSV and it was bad. At that point I figured it was time to move on. Research.....research and then got down to the Weber or Toyo carb choices. Use car as a DD so mileage on normal highways said I didn't need the more expensive My-Side. I appreciate the internet and it's access to information. So now I drive for a few days and I'll check back in with MPG and performance updates. So far, I think I made a very good choice.
Thanks to Tan Zuk for your input. Also Ack for keeping the conversion instructions readily available.
