stupid starter wires 90 tracker, starter good won't engage
« on: December 10, 2009, 04:18:44 PM »
So I have a 12V+ wire to the one terminal, and the black yellow wire on the spade terminal.
I can see 12V, but it seems that when I click the key to turn it over the voltage on the blk/ylw wire does not change.
I have bypassed my clutch cable and it is in neutral.
Is there an in gear sensor for manual transmission or just auto?
Can I bypass the key with another push button circuit to send 12V + or to the blk/ylw wire?
any help appreciated.
best, kevin

the starter manufacture for that vehicle is know for that issue industry wide.... the solenoid is bad.
replace the solenoid or whole starter / solenoid assembly

I had a starter that tested to be good at three different auto parts, but it turned out to be bad. the other thing is make sure you have the car in neutral and have the key on. run a jumper wire from the big positive post on the starter to the 14 gauge slip on wire ( I think yours is the yellow brown one) or run the wire from any positive power down to the little 14 gauge wire. as soon as you do this the starter will turn over and the motor will fire. and if it does not work then the starter is bad. If it does work then you have something wrong with the wiring or ignition. to put a bush button on there just run a power wire into the cab and hook that up to your push button, then run the wire out of the button and down to the starter and plug it in to the little slide on plug in. try that out and let me know how it works. You could also always park it on a slop and start it that way. ;D

It may seem obvious, but make sure you have a good ground to the engine block.  You supply +12 through all those big fat cables, but it flows back to the battery through the ground strap, and these things are notorious for ground problems.
