Major frame rub

96 2 door tracker loving my 2' Jeff lift and BFG T/A TKO 235/75/R 15 on stock rims, but as you can see major frame rub on turn. Options? Cut,wheel spacer,offset rims? Cost vs ease of mod vs change ride (50/50DD mild off road no crawling). Your thoughts are appreciated, want to fix this!

How much do you lack? If you're only an inch or so you'd come out cheaper getting wheel spacers. If it's like 3" you may need wheels with more backspace

my truck did the same thing. just adjust the steering stops to get that little bit less movement. wont hurt the turning circle that bad. mine rub but i just left it how it was, just deal with the tires rubbing if i CRANK it over.

I wonderd if I could adjust the steering, but hate to lose the tight turns with this great little truck.

I think ive lost maybe 2ft on a full uturn with running the larger tires. i still out manuver everything else i wheel with

Before doing spacers look at your clearance on your fenders when at full compression (wheels straight and turned to full lock in each direction) to determine how much of a spacer you can use. If this will clear it, you can get wheel spacers from one of the Z-World vendors. If you don't have the clearance, you will need to do some trimming or just deal with the reduced turning radius and adjust your steering stops...

Good question. How can I measure the needed offset to clear the frame? Loosen lug nuts and pull wheel out, try and measure gap needed to clear at turn?

Post a stand off picture of your rig...Boxcar...
 PS: Wheel spacers are a band aid. Very few tire shops will even touch your rig if it has them......The word : JUNK, comes to mind.....Boxcar....JMHO

Absolutely nothing wrong with using the correct wheel spacers, LOL And they are not a typical band aid fix, LOL
They accomplish the very same thing as changing the backspacing without the cost of new wheels, dis-mounting an mounting/balancing.

Yes they got a bad reputation because some people used simple spacers and others used them to go as wide as possible, both examples leading to the expected failures, LOL. But a 1/2" or 1" spacer that is well made, quality lugs and is torqued down PROPERLY, works perfectly fine without creating issues in 99% of applications and they add strength to the hub itself.

take the wheel off and measure from center inside of rim to flange at edge = backspace
knowing what rim offset you have, as well as factory backspacing, will tell you how much spacer needed.

spacers won't go thru most state inspection, fwiw
nice thing about spacers is you can use with multiple rim sets/rigs (if you have more than one each, obviously)

If you have to buy them, spend the extra few dollars and get rims...

spacers always come up for sale used, rims not as much, and usually come w/tires you may or may not need/want

I'm using stock rims, anyone know what offset/BS? Once I know wat I have, how do I figure what I need?

I'm thinking you are currently at 4"bs and you need 3"bs.
 The whole spacer issue is an old one.
And yes they are a band aid fix.
 Your wheels are attached to the rig with 5 studs mounted through cast steel hubs (stock)
With spacers: your wheels are attached to your rig with 5 studs mounted through aluminum plates that are bolted to the cast steel hubs with 5 studs......LOL.... It's not rocket science......You need a set of wheels....
 Cheaper fixes are just that, CHEAPER. Not better or correct.
And at $60 - $75 a Pair. They are about the same cost as a good set of used wheels. LOL . So are They cheaper after all?????

My rig started out with 235's mounted on stock wheels and they rubed a little also , then I put them on a set of 15x7's with a 3"bs space and that was the end of that story. Now my rig has a 4 1/2" lift and the front arms are an 1" wider and an 1" forward. Soon as I can find 16x7"s I will put a set of 235 85 16"s on it , they are a true 32" tall tire . I got the wheels of of craigs list for $40 so there are beter ways than spacer. If you can find any wheels I will sell ya mine when I get some 16s.
