87 Sami hesitation issue
« on: May 23, 2011, 07:40:22 PM »
Here's my delema, I have a bad hesitation in my Sami as I'm trying to take off or accelerate up hills. It idles perfect, and if you accelerate slowly it's okay only if it's out of gear any type of load on the motor makes it hesitate. I've replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, fuel filter, fuel pump, checked the timing, and checked the vac lines. I am out of options at this point.  The only other thing I can think of is a plugged cat, but I wanted to run through my options before I hack it off. Any help would be great!

Might be the ignitor/pickup in the distributor

Sounds like an accelerator pump issue.

Mine did this just before the dreaded.....

Runs OK for about 10-15 minutes, then just craps out, wait 10 minutes it will restart, go 10-15 minutes craps out again....

Then if you drive over any little bump (Parking Lot Speed Bumps) it will crap out, again 10 minute of waiting to restart.....

It turned out to be the "Fuel Shut Off & Metering Valve" in the OEM Hatachi Carb. This unfortunately is a "Non-Service-able Part".......The solution was to replace the Carb with a OEM rebuild  - or- ....I went to a Weber replacement as I don't have to worry about a "Sniff Test" where I live in Centeral Wisconsin.

It might not be the problem, but its what happened to my 87 Sammy, also make sure, check all them wires & plugs hanging out of your carb for good contact too.

Sounds to me like it could be the dist. also, maybe the timing not advancing. Also the clutch, is it slippin when you accelerate.
HIT IT !!
