The first thing I always do with auto shifting issues is get the transmission fluid flushed out.  If that does not fix the problem then start looking into sensor issues.

Yeah, my 97 4dr does this. I kinda liked it, Paid good money to make my hot rods do this. Mine shifts so hard I can get a "chirp" (on wet pavement!). I am a little worried about wear on the U joints. Anybody know the "why" of this phenomenon? ???

i know the tps sensor is related to that. I might need to be adjusted or is is going bad. do these have kick down cables? my last auto problem was solved by adjusting the kick down cable. ALSO, I know this may sound silly, but make sure you are putting the right type of fluid in there. I ran a dodge caravan for years with a weired tranny, then I took a road trip in it and when I was getting gas I noticed i needed trans. fluid. I found some chevron atf and noticed it was different then what I was getting before, but it was all they had. I put it in and I have had no problems ever since I started using this other stuff. the worst part is it never goes on sale and it is $3 more then other ATF.

If you flush the tranny, you might end up making things worse.
Sometimes the new fluid does a good job and cleans some old
stuck junk out and then it gets into the valve body and makes
the trans stop working properly.
Happened to my brother, we ended up taking the pan off, dropping
the valve body and cleaning the whole thing out, worked like a
champ after, but required several days to get the thin paper gasket
that broke when we separated the plate form the casting.

I use Lucas ATF treatment too, never had a problem with the
trans, even behind the turbo engine, and I have 275,000 miles
on it, never been out of the truck

This is my first automatic. It's stock and slow as heck. My 8 valve on 33's is quicker. I noticed that "power" button, but didn't see a difference, maybe from "slower" to just "slow". Another thing is I can count 3 shifts, 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th(?), then a lock-up of the torque converter(I guess). Funny thing is the shifter looks like it's a 3 speed, L-2-D. So what's this about? I heard that this might be the same tranny that was in a Chevette, is this true? ???

No, the trans in the 95 is an Aisin Warner (Toyota) unit, the
older 3 speeds were the GM TH180 trans you speak of

the four speed trans is actually like a 3speed in the fact that the cable linkage shifts the 1,2,3 or same as L,2,d. and the fourth gear is actually electronic. there is a button on the shifter that turns on or off the overdrive/4th gear.

Yeah, this sounds like mine. I have this other issue too, at about 25mph and 45mph, it starts "surging". As tho I'm pumping the accelerator. I think this is called "searching". This 97 4dr has been messed with. Lotsa scarring from channel locks. The dizzy was off a tooth, idled high, the accelerator and kick-down cables were adjusted out in an attempt to bring down the idle.
