Throw-out bearing hmm
« on: April 14, 2010, 03:35:47 PM »
Alright so im just gonna post it. This could very well be a common problem but I did search it a little.
I was out in the samurai and it felt like the master cylinder died. well it has a clutch cable. Took the tranny out and the throw out bearing is stuck forward. I lined it back up and it does move and the bearing seems healthy. I pull the lever it moves it out and then it doesnt slide back (is it sliding too far out?) Its confusing me so I figured id post this up. Thanks in advance for any sugestions!!!!

I made this retarted paint thing to show

and here it is getting stuck

The TO bearing never moves as far forward as you show in you pic, when the tranny is mounted up to the engine.
The "nose piece" that the TO bearing slides on sometimes gets worn and will cause the bearing to not slide freely.  Or sometimes it just gets dry and you need to put a thin layer of wheel bearing grease or anti-sieze on it to keep it sliding freely.  Since you have the tranny out, wipe down (clean) that nose piece good, before you lube it up.  Don't use anything that would scratch it or gouge it...just a cloth with some brake cleaner will work fine....keep cleaning until the rag is clean, when you wipe the nose piece.
