Samurai starts, dies, wont turn over.
« on: January 16, 2011, 08:45:50 AM »
Hey my sami will start up, I wont turn the lights on, the heater, nothin. Ill let it warm up for oh I dunno 10 mins.
Come back, stick it in reverse, start backing up. And it will die. Granted if I rev up it wont die. But I shouldnt have to.

Anyways, after it dies. It will refusssse to turn over. I just put a 180 dollar battery in it. The ground is solid to the battery. And its not that the battery is even dead.

But heres the weird part. If I turn the dome light on or head lights on, without the key turned to on. The lights willl be bright, and then when i turn the key to on, they go dim...

Also, eventually after a few attempts of starting it, the turning over will slow to the point where eventually it just wont even try. Come back an hour later and it will try again (Without luck)...

The only cure ive found so far is jumping it. But the batteries not even dead.

I dont understand this shit at all. If anyone has any ideas. Itd be a blessing. Thx

Dirty, loose or corroded connection would be the first place to look but also sounds like solenoid may be shorting out. Also do you have multipul ground wires? I always double ground everthing.
From batt to motor
Motor to frame
Frame to body.
Repeat.
All electronics and motor permissives will work better.

Yes im grounded to the motor from the battery, and grounded to the chassis.

IM guessing its the starter, just does some of the weirdest shit. Acts like a bad ground but I know its not.

I had very close to this same problem.  It turned out to be that the power cable coming off of the battery has worn a hole through the rubber and was grounding out on the inner fender.

Replaced the cable and problem solved.
