getting my grill off???
« on: November 14, 2010, 08:19:14 AM »
I am swapping out my front bumper and and am wondering how to get my grill removed.  I get the one screw in the middle, but I can't remember how the clips at the top work.  Do I need to pry on them or just pull?  Thanks
Brian

There are 2 push pins by the lower inner corners of the head lights, and screws or
clips at the leading edge of the fenders, the clips at the top just pull I think, I haven't
had those on for almost 20 years  ;)

There are push lock clips directly above the headlights.  You will need to use a thin screwdriver to pop these out.  There are two in the bottom outside corner, you can reach up from the bottom and push them off of the body or use a putty knife.  There are two about half-way between the headlight and the middle of the grill on the top, a putty knife can also be used for these two.

There is a single screw in the top middle of the grill just above the logo on the right hand side.  It will need to be removed.  There are two more mounts just above the bottom of the grill, just to the left and right hand side.  For these two if you are lucky you can pull and they will just pop out.  Otherwise you will need to pull the top of the grill forward and manually push them out.

Chances are you will break one or two of the clips, just make sure you don't damage the grill.  The mounts can be ordered from your local Suzuki dealership, they are pretty cheap so don't feel bad about breaking them.

Got it ;D  I was nervous about the top clips, but they came pretty easy after some serious pulling.  The 2 bottom ones were easier.  I was able to get a pry bar on them once the top was free.  Thanks all

Drone is correct.  Mine came of a few weeks ago to make room for my "BRDHNTR" style bumper and now lives mounted to the top of the shop.  I am guessing that one of my 4x4 hunting crazed daughters will want a tracker and when they have their 1st accident they will need a straight bumper to put on.  Or if I can't make the sale to them, on of the guys on this web site will have a use for it.  Once the screws are out, no more Mr nice guy and the rest will fall out in your lap.

Now for some constructive advice, and not wishing I lived near Medford...
If you break the clips (like my dumb-a$s did), I found a fix that is still working today...I'm sure you could find original clips from Hawk, but this is what I did:

DJ looks like those clips worked well, nice, and who knows they may even help beercheck with the girl.  ;D
